Moorland experience
11 Million takeover day 2007
Connex to the experience!

Twenty five young people from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, recently took part in an activity on Bodmin Moor called the Moorland Experience, as a thank you for their hard work and valuable input into the Connexions service over the last year.

Rock Climbing Connexions’ Young People’s Consultation groups gathered at a farm in the middle of the moor with Mike Bridgeland from Cornwall Youth Service, to brave the cold and windy weather, and face a series of intellectual and physical challenges. All of the challenges involved plenty of mud and water, and a sense of humour and a lot of courage was needed by everyone.

Mandy Jackson, Connexions team leader, who works closely with the young people’s groups, said; “The day was good fun, although a little cold, with everyone rising to the challenges that they faced. All the young people involved in our consultation groups give so much throughout the year, that it’s nice to conclude their efforts with a fun day. And they can all meet young people from the other consultation groups.

River Walk "After getting tired, cold and wet we finished up with a bar-b-que and karaoke, and celebrated their new peninsula group name of Connex, which the young people decided on at their annual marketing meeting."

The day was also used to complete previously started work on the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly young people’s Connexions plan 2008/09, using the Building Standards framework of the Hear by Right standards.

Connexions are always seeking young people to join in with their Connex groups – please contact Mandy Jackson on 07881 551970 for further details.
