Year 9
We know you can't plan out your whole life from the options you choose in year 9, but this is a good time to think about what you might want to do in the future. No one expects you to have all the answers and there will be lots of people around to help you.
Remember that some courses, such as Maths, English, Science and ICT, are compulsory but others are up to you, so you have to consider which subjects suit you best.
Take these first steps so you can make decisions about your future education and work:
- Let Launchpad help you decide. Launchpad will help you to investigate your skills, choose what to study, and find out more about careers you are interested in.

- For information and help on making your choices in year 9, have a look at Which Way Now from Connexions Direct or check out the booklet.
- Your Connexions personal adviser can also help you with your important decisions.
- Why not start your own personal careers file? Ask people about the jobs they do, how they trained for them, what they like and don't like about their work. Collect articles from magazines and information you've found on the Internet.
- Find out about local courses on your 14-19 area prospectus.
